Spring into spring with Chanel Joues Contraste Frivole! (Pictures and FOTD)

Chanel spring 2013 was one collection that I was really looking forward to. Besides the illuminating powder, the Joues Contraste blush was the other item that I couldn't wait to get my hands on. In the pan, this blush may look frighteningly bright for beauties who like to wear a natural look, but once swatched, I found this bright-in-the-pan blush to be a lovely peach-orange sherbet on my cheeks.

On initial application, there is a distinct rose scent. Usually rosy or floral scents are a big turn-off for me but this color is so unique and unlike anything in my blush collection that I couldn't resist purchasing it. For beauties who are also turned off by scents, I can assure you that the scent quickly dissipates after application.

Like other Chanel blushes, this blends like a dream.  I couldn't get harsh lines or stripes even if I wanted to.  I like to use my extra fluffy Sephora Natural Domed Powder brush #59 with this blush to achieve a soft, airbrushed look.

The following pictures were taken outdoors, not in direct sunlight, which shows the peach qualities of this blush.

Bottom line: If you want a unique and fresh look for spring, I highly recommend Chanel Joues Contraste in Frivole. This blush retails for $43 and can be found at Chanel.com, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and most department store Chanel counters.

Besides the usual pinks, peaches and corals that tend to come out in spring makeup collections, I'm loving lilacs such as in Estee Lauder's spring 2013 collection. When I first purchased Burberry's eyeshadow quad in Plum Pink (original post here), I said that I thought this palette would transition well into spring.   For this face-of-the-day, I decided to pair Chanel's Frivole blush with purple, which I think is an unusual but surprisingly beautiful combination for a spring look. I also used Maybelline's newest Color Whisper in Pin Up Peach to complete my look. Stay tuned for a review on Maybelline Color Whisper.

I am absolutely gaga over Chanel's spring 2013 makeup.  What spring collections have you been drooling over?

  12. I'm in love with the packaging. It's so gorgeous and sleek! I would never be willing to spend so much on one product, but they are really nice to look at. How was the brush that came with it? It looks a little scratchy, is that why you used one of your own brushes? Btw, I really like your eye make-up.

    1. I agree that it's hard to cough up 40-something bucks for one item, but I thought this color was so unique that I'd get a lot of use from it. The brush is actually nice and soft, but I used my own fluffy brush because this blush is soooo pigmented.
