I apologize for the weird formatting. iPhone isn't being very cooperative with me at the moment. I'm out of the country but I couldn't wait to post a rave review on the latest product I've tried. There's nothing like stuffy airplane air circulation and jet lag to zap the life out of my skin, especially when my travel time included two flights, a 4 hour layover, half an hour taxi ride and a 2 hour bus ride, not to mention the 4 hour time difference. I got to my hotel late last night and all I could think when seeing myself in the mirror was that I looked ragged and worn out.
When you have lemons make lemonade right? Despite having only had 6 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours, I thought that last night was the perfect opportunity to test out my new When Essence Gel Mask in the "Travelmate" version. It was a good travel mate indeed because afterward, my skin looked dewy, plump and hydrated as if I'd just had a facial.
I occasionally give myself a deep cleansing mask but I've never tried a hydrating mask, especially the white paper type that makes you look like the phantom of the opera. I happened to come across the When masks while "window shopping" Sephora's website and it had such good reviews that I had to try it out especially with all of the traveling I have planned this year.
There are several When masks, but I chose the "Travelmate" version because I dislike what traveling does to my skin and how dehydrated it gets on a plane. The masks come in a box of 4 and retail for $28. They're individually wrapped so they're perfect for traveling. When you open the packet, you unfold the mask, take off the white paper backing, and apply the gel side to your face. There are holes for your eyes, nose and mouth as well as little notches to help the mask fit to your face.
Upon application I could feel a slight tingly sensation which I enjoyed. I felt like my skin was sopping up the moisture from the gel. I kept the mask on for about 25 minutes as instructed and what a difference!! Before the mask my skin looked dry and flat, with dark sunken circles visible to my undereyes. After, I noticed a my skin was plump, the sunken dark circles gone, and my skin was hydrated and glowing. I'm so happy I have three other masks to use but I doubt I'll wait for my next trip to use another one.
Bottom line: If your a jetsetter and tend to have long travel days or are looking for a hydrating mask, I HIGHLY suggest you try the When Essence Gel Mask in Travelmate. For $7 you get a facial-like instant result that leaves you glowing and gorgeous.
I found this mask at Sephora.

Wish I could get this in Ireland sounds great!
ReplyDeleteIt's seriously amazing!!
DeleteHey Chris,
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great trip!
Thanks for introducing this mask to me, I'm a mask dummies and must explore more of it :)
I've never tried these type of masks before and after this hood experience, I'm looking to try more.
DeleteWow, 6 hours of sleep in 36 hours? Kudos to you for being able to function at all, girly!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear this one works well for you! I usually look like a wreck after I get off a long-haul flight. Last year I had some mask sachets with me but I didn't use them. This year I'm going to bust them out for sure!
You do what you got to do regardless if you get sleep. It's what I get for trying to be jetsetter. ;). I look like a wreck too after long flights. This would be almost perfect if it was clear so I could give myself a facial on the plane.
DeleteLove this post, Chris! I've been eyeballing this on the Sephora website for a while. Do you think the tingling sensation would be too much for sensitive skin types? xx
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I actually have really sensitive skin. My skin gets red just from rubbing in moisturizer. I was a little worried when I felt the tingling sensation (which is mild by the way), but my skin was fine and didn't look irritated at all right after. I'm definitely buying a backup box. :)
DeleteI've never tried a sheet mask either but I always hear such good thing about their plumping/hydrating abilities. Sounds great for when my skin is dehydrated or overexfoliated! I haven't heard of this brand but I will def check them out next time I'm at Sephora!
