I've been waiting for Rimmel to bring their lip lacquers to the US ever since I caught word of the buzz in the beauty blogosphere. These lip lacquers originally launched in the UK but under the name "Apocalips." After seeing beautiful swatches of the bold colors and reading rave reviews of the formulation, I couldn't wait to get my hands on these.
It was definitely worth the wait as the US gets a few more colors to try out. I decided to buy 4 colors, 2 bold ones and 2 neutrals. Today I will be featuring the bold colors since summer is just around the corner and bold, bright lips will be a prevalent trend.
Apocaliptic is a bold fuschia that also applies almost opaquely in one coat. I like to apply two coats for both colors to get a nice, even finish. Just as their name states, these lippies apply with a lacquer finish. My lips look well-coated and shiny after two coats. I tend to have dry lips but these felt very comfortable on. I wouldn't say they're hydrating, but they're also not drying. For a lip lacquer that hugs my lips, these are very flexible.
Though I'm not featuring this color, I wanted to point out the unique doe foot applicator as it has a little "well" to hold a reservoir of product. My tip for applying these lip lacquers is to first place product in the middle of your lips to deposit color, then once most of the product is off the doe foot, use the applicator to then precisely outline your lips. Now onto how these colors brighten up my face.
These pigmented bolder colors lasted about 3-4 hours on me with drinking. Both Stellar and Apocaliptic leave a stain which stretches staying power into the 4th hour for me. Just in case you were wondering, these two colors were in the original launch of Rimmel's Apocalips. In terms of taste and smell, these lippies have a fairly strong fruit candy smell which reminded me of watermelon Now & Later candies (remember those?). They also have a slight fruity taste in the beginning, but which I don't notice after these have set.
Bottom line: I'm really enjoying these lip lacquers. I love how they brighten up my face and for only $4.99, Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers are a welcome addition to my summer makeup looks.
